ARRL Field Day June 24-25, 2017

THE WVRA READIES FOR ANOTHER EXCITING FIELD DAY

The Wisconsin Valley Radio Association will be participating in the world’s largest on-air amateur radio event – Field Day, on Saturday, June 24th and Sunday 25th. Field Day brings hams from around the world together in a 24 hour scramble to meet as many of their radio brethren as possible.

Location for this year’s Field Day event is at 4032 Camp Phillips Rd, Weston, WI (across from the Samoset Council Scout Center). This is private property but the field day site will be open to the public. Please watch for the signs for the entrance to the site.

This year is a special year for the WVRA as they pay respect Reno Groetch W9NA (SK). Reno was one of the founding members of the WVRA and was active in amateur radio operator. While Reno became a silent key in 2005, we celebrate his 100th birthday this year in memory to all he has done for the ham community in Central Wisconsin. The Rib Mountain Repeater Association’s Silent Key page has an excellent memorial to all of his accomplishments (http://rmra.ws/silent-keys?id=279).

To commemorate Reno’s life and accomplishments, the WVRA will be operating as W9NA beginning in CW mode at 1pm Saturday and will use Reno’s call throughout the event. We invite all local amateurs to attend the event and to spend time on the air with our greater amateur radio family.

As always, the WVRA will hold a license exam. All license classes will be offered. So if you’re looking to get licensed for the first time, or ready to test for your amateur extra license, we’ll be ready for you.

We are asking all able-bodied members to be available at 8am on Saturday and again at 12 noon on Sunday to erect and take down the tower. We are also looking for volunteers to handle specific aspects of this event. Please contact Joe KD9CJX if you can assist in:

  • W1AW Bulletin (CW or digital)
  • Bringing Chairs/Tables (for dinner or VE session)
  • Side dishes for dinner (6pm Saturday)
  • Satellite Ops
