June Activities with the WVRA

Summer is FINALLY here! I hope you had a great holiday weekend and are excited for summer! The WVRA will be in full swing beginning in June – we have a lot of events planned so please mark your calendars:

  • June 7th – general meeting
  • June 25/26 – Field Day
  • July 7-10 – Wausau Balloon Rally
  • July 19th – WVRA picnic (No July club meeting!)

We will also be scheduling a moving day for repeater equipment. On that note, I’d like to thank Mark N9MEA, Michael KB9VBR, Wendy KC9VIO, Bob WB9RND, Arlen N9QKT, and Tom KB9NHQ for assisting with getting the cableway installed at the FOX site a few weekends ago. We also want to thank Stoney W9QJQ and Paul KQ9KX for their assistance with electrical and welding on this project. We hope to have the systems up and running soon!

May 14, 2016 testing session. From L to R: Tom KB9NHQ received his General, Joe KD9CJX received his Extra, Allen received his technician, and John did not pass.

We also want to congratulate Tom KB9NHQ for upgrading to General class at our last VE session. He’s already got the Extra class book and is looking to get on HF!

If you’re looking for something to read/watch, the ARRL is posting videos and excerpts from presentations at the Dayton Hamvention. Please check out www.ARRL.org for more info.

Finally, on a personal note, I wanted to give everyone an update on my activation of Ambergris Caye, Belize. As of Monday night, I still don’t have a license. I’ve paid the public utility commission twice now – you’d think I’d have a gold leaf engraved license…hopefully I get a confirmation that they’ve received it in the next day or so, or else there will be no operating as V32 next week.

73 and hope to hear you on the air!

Joe
